Describes travels and sightseeing in Switzerland from 7th July (p2-18), including Vevey (12 days with various relatives), Les Dévens (near Bex), Yverdon, Neuchatel, with geological section in pencil with notes by Roderick Murchison (with notes) (p5-6), Solothurn, Berne, Thun, Interlaken, Reichenbach, Lake Lucerne (Alpnachstad, Weggis, Altdorf, Brunnen, Lucerne) (p9-13), Zurich, Weesen, Baden, Schinznach, and Basel.
Leaves Switzerland on 11th September, and travels back to England via Strasbourg, Bonn, Aix-La-Chapelle (Aachen), Liège, Malines (Mechelen), and Ostend (p18-20).

Briefly describes a summer in Buxton, for both Charlotte and her husband's health (p21-23).

Describes travels and sightseeing in France from 1st June (p25-47), including Boulogne, Paris, Orléans, Bourges, Blet, Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier, Vichy (including expeditions to chateaux, and meeting people such as the Duchesse de Gontaut) (p29-36), Chateau de [Vance], Clermont (Clermont-Ferrand), Mont Dore les Bains (Le Mont-Dore), Saint-Nectaire, Chateau de [Basset] (near Thiers).
Begins the return journey on 19th July, stopping at Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier, Paris, visiting the residence of the Marquis de Villette, and Boulogne.

Describes travels in central England from 10th July (p50-54), visiting Rowsley, Buxton, Combermere Abbey, Shrewsbury, Acton Scott, and [Oakeley] Park.
Enters Wales on 27th August, and describes travels and sightseeing in Wales (p54-60), including [Vaenols] (north Wales) (including trip to Llanberis/Snowdon), Bangor, Beaumaris, Plas Newydd, Penrhyn quarry, Caernarfon, Beddgelert, Dolgelly (Dolgellau), Machunleth (Machynlleth), Llanbrynmair and [Nasston].
Re-enters England on 29th September, and visits Hereford, Uppark and Brighton (p61).
