DescriptionLetter from Joseph H FRYER, Lysick Hall, Cumberland, to George Bellas Greenough, 12 April 1814. Re: Detailed descriptions of the coal strata of Newcastle, and Northumberland, and the order of the strata of Red Sandstone, limestone and basalt, forwards an account of 'boring at Dinsdale in 1789' which was difficult to obtain, clarifies the strata marked on his map [presumably on one of those sent to him previously], methods used by Westgarth Forster for his geological section.
Administrative HistoryAccording to the Memoir to Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales' (1820), Joseph H Fryer of Lysick Hall, Cumberland, sent Greenough three maps coloured geologically in 1814 - Cumberland, Westmorland and Durham - which contributed to the final published map.
