DescriptionManuscript sheet entitled 'Directions for colouring the geological map', comprising a brief list of instructions for colouring particular strata or areas on George Bellas Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales (1820), possibly in the hand of Thomas Webster, [1819 or after].
Administrative HistoryThe intention was that Thomas Webster would undertake the colouring of George Bellas Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales (1820), but William Ebden was also commissioned to help with the colouring - presumably to cope with the presumed demand for copies during its first year of publication. These instructions were probably given to Ebden for this purpose. A number of the entries contain phrases such as "the same as Mr W's" - that is the same as Thomas Webster's colouring.
