Administrative HistoryAware that there was a dearth of good geological maps of Scotland in the Society's collection, the Council purchased a copy of Lewis' map of Scotland c.1851/1852 and requested that George Bellas Greenough and Daniel Sharpe colour it geologically.

This map appears to be a fair copy draft and uses a slightly different colour scheme to the final map LDGSL/702 (ie gneiss is pink on this map, but yellow on the final version).

In Thomas Sheppard's list, the item is recorded as being by Sharpe only.
