Administrative HistoryThe latest bibliographic reference cited on the map is from the 'Transactions of the Natural History Society of Northumberland, Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne', vol 1 (1831), but another is Nathaniel Winch's "Observations on the Geology of Northumberland and Durham", 'Transactions of the Geological Society of London', S1, vol 4 (1817), pp1-101.

The map is likely to have formed part of the research for the second edition of Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales' (1840).
