| Administrative History | In Henry Warburton's paper "On the Bagshot Sand", 'Transactions of the Geological Society of London', S2, vol 1 (1822), pp48-52, he states "In tracing this outline I have not entered into any very minute topographical details, because the surface over which the sand extends has been laid down from the observations which I made upon it, in company with Mr. Buckland and Mr. Greenough, in Mr. G.'s Geological Map of England."
The map contains no bibliographic citations and its geological descriptions appear quite basic. There is one reference to information from William Buckland in the description of the strata of St Anne's Hill, near Thorpe, likely to be connected to a donation to the Museum from Buckland in December 1817 [see GSL/MUS/5/1/2].
The map, therefore, may be connected to the first edition of Greenough's 'Geological Map of England and Wales' (1820). |
