Description | Geological colouring, with key, by Joseph H Fryer, [?1814], on John Cary's 'County Map of Cumberland', 1793. Greenough no.199. Scale-1:400,000, 33cm x 23cm. Paper on cloth. |
Administrative History | Underneath the cloth it states 'Cumberland geolog colored by Mr Fryer'. According to the Memoir to Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales' (1820), Joseph H Fryer of Lysick Hall, Cumberland, sent Greenough three maps coloured geologically in 1814 - Cumberland, Westmorland and Durham - which aided his research in compiling the map. This item is presumably one of these. |
