Administrative History | Amongst George Bellas Greenough's annotations is notably "The colouring has been changed so as to accord nearly with [William] Smith's [county] map published 1821". Other sources cited are Nathaniel Winch's paper "Observations on the Eastern Part of Yorkshire", TGS, vol 5 (1821), John Phillips' map of Yorkshire (1829) and information from Adam Sedgwick (1830).
The map is likely to have been used as part of the research for the second edition of Greenough's Geological Map of England & Wales (1840). |
