Administrative HistoryThe map references William Hawkes Smith's book 'Birmingham and its Vicinity', (1836). Hawkes Smith was also in correspondence with Greenough, see: LDGSL/947/1/SMITH.

The map is likely to have been used as part of the research into the second edition of Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales', (1840).
