Date Note | Given same span dates as other map of Monmouth in this series. |
Description | Incomplete geological colouring, with a few pencil notes, by George Bellas Greenough, [1818-1839], on the base map ''A New and Accurate Map of the County of Monmouth Divided into Hundreds', engraved by Johnson of Bristol, published by M Willett, [n.d.]. Greenough no.258. Scale-1:175,000, 38cm x 34cm. |
Administrative History | Thomas Sheppard gives a date of c.1830 for the map, but it is unclear where this information came from. As the colouring bears similarities with another map of Monmouth in this series [see: LDGSL/947/6/E/4] it is therefore given the same span date.
The map was probably used as part of the research/drafting of the second edition of George Bellas Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales', (1840). |
