DescriptionFour published tracts by Albrecht Ritter on fossils and minerals, bound into a single volume along with mss letters to Ritter from August Johann von Hugo and at least two other authors, 1733-1735, which may have connections to the published works. The volume belonged to M Muller? (dated 1756) who has heavily annotated the pages in Latin. The publications are:

1) 'Lucubratiuncula I. de Alabastris Hohnsteinensibus nonnullisque aliis ejusdem loci rebus naturalibus', Helmstadt, (1731)
2) 'Lucubratiuncula II. de Alabastris Schwartzburgicis cui subnexa est rerum quarumdam naturalium ejusdem terrae brevis delineatio', Helmstadt, (1732)
3) 'Epistolica Oryctographia Goslariensis', Helmstadt, (1733)
4) 'De fossilibus et naturae mirabilibus Osterodanis', Sondershausen, (1734)

Also bound into the volume is a short tract:

Administrative HistoryAlbrecht Ritter (1684-1748) born in Holzhausen (Gotha), Germany, 2 June 1684. He was the first "Hofmeister," then in succession Substitut (1717), Subconrector (1721), Conrector (1723) and Prorector (1740) at the royal Stiftscollegiums at Ilefeld. He held membership in the Leopoldinian Academy.

The volume belonged to George Bellas Greenough who studied in Gottingen, Germany, between 1798-1801 and may have been acquired then.
