Administrative HistoryEstablished in April 1979 at the request of Lady Frances Fermor in memory of her husband Sir Lewis Leigh Fermor whose bequest to the Society had founded the Fermor Fund. The first lecture 'Himalaya and Tibet', was given by Professor Augusto Gansser on 17 December 1980. 1980 also marked the centenary of Sir Lewis Fermor's birth.

The event is held every two or three years and usually runs between two or three days. The meeting can cover any aspect of geology relating to the Precambrian.
