Administrative HistoryThe subject of the paper, although not stipulated, concerns Henry De la Beche's discovery of plants, normally associated with the Carboniferous but found in a lower part of the geological sequence. The issue would spark the 'Devonian Controversy', leading to the delineation of the Devonian system by Roderick Murchison and Adam Sedgwick in 1839.
