Administrative History"The increased expense of producing the Quarterly Journal, consequent on the rise of prices after the War, created a serious situation. The money in hand was insufficient to meet the demand, and arrears accumulated. It was decided in April 1923 to appeal to the Fellows for Contributions to a Voluntary Publication Fund. The amount at present available is £229 17s. 10d., and a further £170 2s. 0d. received or promised during 1924. It is hoped that further Contributions will be received, and that a permanent Voluntary Publication Fund will be maintained. The policy, which commends itself to the Council, in relation to the Fund, may be briefly stated. The Fund should, in future, be treated as a separate Fund, and not included in the Balance-Sheet of the Society. It should be allocated solely to the publication of the Journal, grants being found from it to meet publication expenses in excess of the amount available from ordinary sources ; in special cases, it should be utilized for the provision of coloured maps, or in other ways likely to enhance the value and efficiency of the Society's Journal.", Annual Rep, 1923 [AGM Proc, 1924]
