DescriptionHand coloured, black and white albumen photograph of Sir Richard Griffith by John Chancellor, Dublin, 6 Jan 1870. The photographic base has faded leaving the hand-colouring standing out.
Administrative HistoryThe photograph has been colourised with a transparent paint to resemble the painting of Griffith by Stephen Catterson Smith which was painted around 1854. The pose is very similar, with the map laid out before the sitter, and what is probably the Wollaston Medal behind. The pose was partially recreated again in a photograph by Thomas Cranfield in 1874.
ProvenanceFound in depositor's attic and donated in February 2023.
