Ref NoLDGSL/1107/A
TitleCorrespondence of Dan Peter McKenzie
Extent92 files
ArrangementThe correspondence has been split into five areas: Scientific correspondence; Cambridge career; referee reports, prizes & awards, and written histories. McKenzie only began to split his correspondence loosely into these sections in the 1990s, although not always. He did, however, gradually include the more scientific letters amongst his working files. As some of the material, particularly relating to his role as an academic at Cambridge University concerns students it is subject to the Data Protection Act. There is also some closed files within the referee report sections. Therefore to allow the scientific correspondence to be open to researchers without restriction, the section has been arranged as above. Financial records have also been removed, but retained in section LDGSL/1107/F.

McKenzie weeded the files, removing personal material, before donating the collection to the Society. As part of the preparations, he annotated letters mainly with the surnames of correspondents and occasionally added comments where his findings were subsequently found to be incorrect. Circled numbers refer to his list of publications.

Things to note: The majority of the correspondence files were loosely arranged into years, but not chronologically within. For ease of use, the letters are arranged chronologically by the date written on the letter, but unless there is an extant reply, this will not reflect when McKenzie actually received each letter.
