| Description | Tryweryn Dam Consultancy, documents Shackleton's service advising Liverpool Corporation on the geology of the site of the Llyn Celyn reservoir in Merionthshire, North Wales. In 1955 Liverpool Corporation announced its intention to build a reservoir near Bala to assure Liverpool's water supply. The plan was approved in 1956 and an enabling Act of Parliament was passed the following year. Despite an opposition campaign headed by Welsh Nationalists, the dam building went ahead and the reservoir was opened in October 1965. | Administrative History | In 1955 Liverpool Corporation announced its intention to build a reservoir near Bala in Merionethshire to ensure the city of Liverpool had a sufficient water supply. Despite many objections, as the reservoir would drown the village of Capel Celyn and a number of hill farms, Liverpool Corporation approved the plan in 1956 and an enabling Act of Parliament was passed the following year. Despite a continued opposition campaign, headed by Welsh Nationalists, the dam building went ahead and the reservoir was opened in October 1965. It had the capacity to hold 16,400 million gallons of water.
