DescriptionRough mining notes and colouring, [by George Bellas Greenough and William Buckland?], on base map 'Plan of the rivers Tyne and Wear from Tynemouth Bar to Bywell....' engraved by I A Kidd, Newcastle and published by William Casson, March 1801. The map is annotated at the top 'Geological Society's Map 1839'.
Administrative HistoryThe annotation 'Geological Society's Map 1839' indicates that the map was likely to have been used as part of the research for the second edition of George Bellas Greenough's 'Geological Map of England and Wales' (1840).
CustodialHistoryThe previous catalogue suggested that the colouring and notes may have been made by William Turner, however the handwriting is not his.
ProvenancePresented by the Rev William Turner, 6 Jan 1809.
