DescriptionCharles Joseph HULLMANDEL, specimen lithotint with assorted fossils over a view of sea cliffs displaying horizontal strata, by George Scharf, Hullmandel's patent, [1840].
Administrative HistoryThe lithotint process, designed to achieve the subtlety of painting in lithography, was patented by Hullmandel in 1840. Although the specimen was presented to GSL by Scharf, it seems likely that Hullmandel, the patentee, instigated the print.
