Description | One complete set and three loose sheets of the third edition of George Bellas GREENOUGH's 'Geological Map of England and Wales', first issued 1865, comprising:
Draft 1) Pencil draft of the revised legend with dedication to William Smith, attached to which is the notice of Council for the agreed wording, initialled 'WWS', dated December 1864. [Warington Wilkinson Smyth, Secretary (1856-1866)]. No watermark.
Complete set 2) TS 4. 6 sheets, sectioned and mounted on linen. Each sheet measures 66.6cm x c.83cm
Loose sheets 3) Single coloured sheet, NW (Scotland) of the third edition. Watermark 1869. [sooty] 4) Single coloured sheet, SE of England of third edition. Watermark 1870. The colouring is very bright, and apart from some superficial dirt round the edges is in pristine condition. |
